About FALLEN GIANTS
The elder statesmen of the Savernake lie in peaceful retirement on the forest floor.
I live close to this ancient woodland and visit it most days of my life. It's an endlessly fascinating environment in which to work. And it is constantly undergoing change. Many trees, especially beech trees with their shallow root structure, simply collapse and lie for years in silent retirement. New growth can change the look and feel of areas in a matter of weeks.
The wind, the rain, snow and mist all add a new and exciting perspective. In Winter, the forest is reduced to a skeletal framework, allowing access to sunlight that is otherwise restricted during the remaining seasons. And Autumn is everybody's favourite season. It starts with a blush of colour in late October and peaks into a firestorm of rust and gold before the wind and rain create a golden carpet under a winter framework.
